Lorne’s Falls Festival relocated due to fire risks.
After ongoing bush fire dangers affecting Victoria, the Falls Festival organisers have moved the Lorne leg of the festival to a new venue for safety reasons.
The new site will be at Mount Duneed Estate on Pettavel Road, the venue that holds ‘A Day On The Green’ events just north of Torquay.
Falls Festival Co-Producer Jessica Ducrou said:
“First and most importantly, our hearts and thoughts are with our neighbours and local communities in the Lorne area who continue to deal with this heartbreaking situation. The safety of our patrons is always our number one concern, and our discussions have directed us to a new home and Falls experience for the year.”
The decision to move the festival came 24 hours after over 100 homes were lost to bush fires along the Great Ocean Road. Festival organisers worked closely with emergency services to assess the changing situation.
Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley said:
“This is about people’s safety and that was the focus in coming to the decision to relocate the festival. The Falls Festival organisers were engaged from the beginning and have respected the expert safety advice given to them that has prompted the need to relocate the event.”
As the show is going on, refunds aren’t being offered but ticket holders can swap for either Marion Bay or Byron Bay legs of the festival by contacting Oztix directly.
