Thundercat – Vega
Live Nation Denmark Presents: Thundercat
Funky, feel good LA Bass player, Thundercat, jazzed his way through a sold out concert in Copenhagen on Wednesday night (12-12-18). Stephen Bruner, the critically acclaimed jazz musician performed to a lively crowd at Vega as part of his end of year tour.
Copenhagen was treated to special guest, Dorina Concept, an Austrian producer and Flying Lotus associate who puts his own eclectic spin on the FlyLo brand. Both incredible artists have worked together on projects with Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington to develop a modern Jazz sound.
With the room filled with beautiful, sharp, elevating sounds, Dorina received a large applause from the overly eager crowd. As the clock struck 9, Thundercat appeared in a bright yellow Dragon Ball-Z Jacket wearing socks and Birkenstock sandals. His cheeky grin and humble stage presence award him a warm welcome from Danish residences.
Thundercat’s dancing fingers slid up and down his six-string bass with ease. The vibrant sounds spread across the hall for all to enjoy. A vast majority of the set consisted of the album “Drunk,” Thundercat’s latest, and perhaps greatest album. Friend Zone, Walk on By and Show You The Way were all stand outs with alternative, extended Bass and Drum solos.
You couldn’t help but notice Stephens quirky and witty personality shine through the set with small conversations about his cat, dreams and bad microphone jokes. His ability to connect with the crowd was well received by fans.
As the set came to a close “Them Changes” drew the largest response of the evening. The song’s hypnotic, funk-indebted groove was impossible to ignore as drinks were raised.
Thundercat fans anticipate new music in 2019 and look forward to the next instalment from the Brainfeeder artist.
