Residential

I’ve always loved & supported local music to the most of my ability, no matter the genre, so when I found out I was going to be shooting a residents night at GPO you can picture how exited I was. After seeing the residents open for the main acts for weeks on end, I knew that I and the crowd were in for a treat.

After the all too familiar drive down to Brisbane, I was pleasantly surprised to already see a plethora of people through the large glass windows bordering the GPO, and a run of people snaking outside through the guide ropes. With a firm handshake and a warm welcome, I was allowed through. Even though it was only 9:30, the thundering bass through the walls had me itching to start straight away.

After a lightening fast pit stop to set the camera up, I was on my way up the stairs. It didn’t take long before I was once again greeted by the ever-cheerful locals, and it took even less time before a small chorus was asking in sync, “Oi, photo?”. By the time I’d officially clocked on I was already busy, and this is never, ever a bad thing.

The remainder of the night seemed to pass in a blur, a haze of alcohol and frenzied dancing. The residents didn’t disappoint, with an unrelenting bass attack from the get go. From the minute the doors opened to the main dance room to the minute I left, it was a flurry of arms and bobbing heads. 2:20am saw me leave the club. Jumping back in to my car to take a breather before the drive home. I rested happily, knowing that safely sat in my bag were hundreds of moments that would be forgotten by the individuals for the night, but moments that we would be rekindling. That is where the beauty lies.
