For Your Ears: The XX – On Hold

Channeling the boldness that came from the success of Jamie XX’s In Colour, The XX have produced a track that suits today’s transition into electronic and ambient music while holding their own sound with maturity and without compromise.

The London three piece seem more extraverted than ever with Romy and Oliver trading lines of love and lust blossoming into On Hold, the slipping away of the ones we care for.

The first track from upcoming album I See You has obvious influences including Caribou, though the winner is that pitch-shifted snippet of “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” the sneaky sample from Hall and Oates.
