COLD CHISEL ANNOUNCE 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR – “THE BIG FIVE-O”
Eleven: A Music Company Presents: Cold Chisel, The Big Five-O
Cold Chisel has announced a special tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary, aptly named “The Big Five-0.” The celebration will begin on Saturday, October 5th, in Armidale, where the band spent time in 1974-75 while Don Walker finished his university studies. Over seven weeks, the tour will travel through major Australian cities, concluding on Sunday, November 17th, in Adelaide, the band’s birthplace.
Unlike previous tours, this one isn’t promoting a new album. Instead, the band is hitting the road simply “because we all love playing gigs together.” The anniversary tour promises to feature all the iconic tracks that have solidified Cold Chisel’s place in Australian rock history, including hits like Khe Sanh, Bow River, Flame Trees, You Got Nothin’ I Want, When The War Is Over, My Baby, Cheap Wine, Choir Girl, and many more.
“We wanted to celebrate our 50th birthday by revisiting all of our best work from across the years,” says guitarist and singer, Ian Moss. “As we prepare the setlist, there are a minimum of 15 songs that our audience demands to hear. This time we’ll be playing all of them plus we’ll be throwing in lots of musical surprises as well.”
The Cold Chisel journey began in 1974, stretching from Armidale to Adelaide, and has since produced three gold and platinum albums in the past 12 years, earning the band fans across multiple generations. Their latest album, Blood Moon (2019), hit the top of the charts, and its lead single, Getting The Band Back Together, won the APRA Award for Australia’s Most Performed Rock Work.
Over the years, Cold Chisel has received numerous accolades, including induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame, APRA’s Ted Albert Award, a street named after them in Adelaide, and even a postage stamp in their honor. With such recognition, the band now fully appreciates the unique place their music holds in the hearts of fans across Australasia. “The Big Five-0” tour offers a rare opportunity for fans of all ages to see the band live and sing along to their classic hits once again.
As Don Walker puts it, “This 50th anniversary tour will be a huge celebration – for all of us.”
